THE PROJECT IS ON GOING !We have sent the first instalment of funds to start the first activities on the 11/07/2007 ! Mrs Irene Kamau, Action Now Kenya Director, writes to us: "Dear Cactus,
We are excited to hear from you, and the selected community members are also thrilled.
As a matter of fact, we have already embarked on the initial aspect of mobilization, in the process of trying to identify the specific project beneficiaries. We are pleased to be working in collaboration with you, and we shall make a point of keeping you informed of the happenings on the ground.
Thank you to all those who have supported this initiative. We believe it will make a difference in the lives of those that we work with. We are also greatful to cactus, for your efficiency..."
Action Now Kenya (ANK), a Kenyan non-governmental organisation, will reach out to the youth, and mostly young women, living within the Kayole informal settlement in Nairobi. The project intends to build the capacity of 30 youth through vocational skills training of their choice. By the end of the project period, the trained youth will have acquired skills that they can use to enable them to earn some income.
The second component of the project is the facilitation and setting up of credit disbursement system for business start-ups by the project beneficiaries. ANK will train the beneficiaries on how to set up and operate their own credit groups. The credit fund set aside will be managed by ANK, It is expected that since the groups will pay back loans advanced to them, the fund will continue to revolve, even after the project period, since ANK will continue to re-lend the funds. The revolving fund groups are one of the regular ANK programs, therefore, the organisation will continue to fundraise for higher amounts to disburse as credit to groups, enabling the new groups formed to continue to access credits.
